Marriage visa (F-6)
F-6 is the visa for a foreign spouse of a Korean citizen to live together in Korea. We help when you invite a spouse from abroad, and when a spouse already in Korea changes visa.
Who this is for
- Foreign spouses who are married, or will marry, a Korean citizen
- Korean citizens who want to bring their spouse to Korea
- People who married while staying with a student or work visa
- People preparing an F-6 extension, F-5 or naturalization
Main requirements
- The marriage is registered in Korea and in your spouse’s country
- The marriage is real (they check how you met, etc.)
- The Korean spouse meets the income rule set by the Ministry of Justice (it changes every year)
- You have a home to live in together
- You and your spouse can talk to each other
Documents you usually need
- Marriage papers from both countries
- Invitation letter and guarantee letter
- Proof of income of the Korean spouse
- Proof of housing (property record, rental contract, etc.)
- Criminal record and health papers of the foreign spouse (when invited from abroad)
- Proof of your relationship (photos, messages, etc.)
Rules and documents can change and are different for each person. We check the latest rules again before you apply. (Last checked: 2026-11-05)
How it works
- 1
Free consultation
Tell us if your marriage is registered and where your spouse is now.
- 2
Requirement check
We check income, housing and communication first and tell you what is missing.
- 3
Prepare papers
We list papers from both countries and write the application and explanations.
- 4
We apply for you
Inside Korea we apply to immigration. From abroad we apply for a visa issuance certificate.
- 5
Approval & aftercare
We guide registration, next extension, and when you can apply for F-5 or naturalization.
How long it takes
If your marriage is already registered, papers usually take 2–4 weeks. Review time depends on the immigration office or embassy. It takes longer if you start from the marriage registration.

In many cases it is enough that you and your spouse can talk to each other. We check how to show this in the consultation.
I married while on a student visa. Can I change in Korea?
In many cases you can apply to change to F-6 inside Korea. We check your stay period and papers.
Can I get permanent residence or citizenship later?
After some years with F-6, you can prepare for F-5 or simple naturalization. We tell you when.
